The original Purple Onion was started in the year 2002 by Roy and his former partner. The restaurant in size was small (only 12 tables) but the location being across the street from the Pueblo Bonito Hotel was a big asset.
After one year of success, it became apparent that the owners needed a larger building for more capacity. So in December 2003 the owners were able to obtain a long term commitment for its current location.
However Roy's former partner decided he no longer wanted to be in the restaurant business so he sold his portion of the Purple Onion restaurant to Howard Gable and team of "Howard & Roy" was born.
Vast improvements were made over the following 18 months and now the seating capacity is 218 with another 36 seats at the bar. The kitchen was upgraded to all modern stainless steel equipment and the same applies to the bar.
Today, with the introduction of live music on a daily schedule, the famous Purple Onion restaurant is considered the place to visit by both locals and tourists.
